Ba-da-ba-da BATMAN! The iconic 1960s series of Batman, theme tune and all, are gliding onto Talking Pictures in June.
Talking Pictures has announced its intention to broadcast the 1960s Batman TV series, starring Adam West and Burt Ward. The British archive TV channel shared the news in a recent X / Twitter post.
Batman was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and first published by DC Comics in 1939. Produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television, the character’s debut TV series first aired in 1966. The show ran for 120 episodes over 3 seasons and featured West as the title character, Ward as Robin and Alan Napier as Alfred. The show was adapted into a feature film during its run.
Some big-name stars were regulars on Batman as the recurring villains. Among the most well-known are Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, Eartha Kitt, Vincent Price and Milton Berle.
The style of this series is the epitome of what many people would associate with comics. The colours are gaudy. The acting style frequently feels stagey in a very satisfying way: especially among the villains. The show is a fun mix between many mystery and action shows of the day, alongside these bright, larger than life elements.
This latest addition joins a long list of classic shows on the channel in 2024. Recent additions include Worzel Gummidge, Out of Town, The Brothers and Budgie. Batman will be joining the channel’s unique Saturday Morning Pictures strand, a weekly childhood nostalgia trip that has included The Adventures of Robin Hood and Larry the Lamb.
