A Bit of a Do Coming to That’s Christmas

That’s Christmas, the British archive TV channel, has announced their intention to broadcast the 1980s comedy-drama series A Bit of a Do, starring David Jason and Gwen Taylor.

What is A Bit of a Do

A Bit of a Do, produced by Yorkshire Television, originally aired on ITV in 1989. Based on the books by David Nobbs, the series is set in a small Yorkshire town and follows the lives of two families, the working-class Simcocks and the middle-class Rodenhursts, through various social events like weddings, funerals, and dinner parties. The show ran for 13 episodes over two series. It has previously been aired on ITV3.

The cast featured Jason and Taylor alongside Nicola Pagett, Paul Chapman, Michael Jayston, Stephanie Cole, Tim Wylton, Sarah-Jane Holm and David Thewlis.

The Progression of That’s TV

The That’s TV network has significantly increased its offering of classic TV in the last few years. What started as a single channel airing reruns of Benny Hill and Kenny Everett, has blossomed into multiple channels with a huge variety. Current shows include Home to Roost, Bread, Duty Free, and Rising Damp. We will endeavour to publicise future additions following their announcement.

That’s TV 2 is available to view on Freeview (71), Sky (183) and Virgin (296).

Jamie’s Reaction

This is another one of those television shows that is fondly remembered but sometimes swept under the rug. I was surprised to see that it only ran for 13 episodes, as its name recognition is incredibly strong. I haven’t seen an episode, but the ensemble cast will be enough to tempt me.

When is A Bit of a Do on That’s TV?

A Bit of a Do will begin airing on Thursday the 24th of October at 8:55pm on That’s TV Christmas. Check the That’s TV Christmas schedule for more details.
