The classic 1960s TV series Batman will get a third regular schedule slot on Talking Pictures, the channel it has called home for a while. The show, starring Adam West and Burt Ward, has been airing on the channel’s Saturday Morning Pictures strand. A rerun of that day’s episode has been airing the following day. The series will now, in addition, be run from the beginning on a weekday.
Batman, the brainchild of artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, was first introduced by DC Comics in 1939. The character’s inaugural television series, produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television, premiered in 1966. Spanning three seasons with a total of 120 episodes, the series starred West as Batman, Ward as Robin, and Alan Napier as Alfred. During its original broadcast, the show was also transformed into a feature film.
The style of this series is the epitome of what many people would associate with comics. The colours are gaudy. The acting style frequently feels stagey in a very satisfying way: especially among the villains. The show is a fun mix between many mystery and action shows of the day, alongside these bright, larger than life elements.
A new run of Batman, from episode 1, will begin on Tuesday the 30th of July at 7:05pm. It will continue weekly around the same time. The weekend runs will continue as usual.
Talking Pictures TV is available free-to-air on Freeview and Freesat in the UK. Its channel allocation is 82 for Freeview and 306 for Freesat. It is also available on subscription platforms, channel 328 on Sky Digital and 445 on Virgin. The channel is dedicated to vintage film and television, often highlighting forgotten treasures and classics.
