BBC Announce Classic Entertainment Season for BBC Four and iPlayer

The BBC has announced their intention to broadcast a season of classic entertainment programmes from the last 50+ years. The season will air on BBC Four and will run across three Saturday nights during the Olympics.

The TV lineup will include classic editions of The Generation Game, hosted by both Bruce Forsyth and Larry Grayson respectively, as well as an episode of Bob’s Full House and Noel’s House Party. Blankety Blank will feature episodes hosted by Terry Wogan, Les Dawson, and Paul O’Grady as Lily Savage. Additionally, the first episode of Strictly Come Dancing from 2004 will also air, coinciding with the show’s 20th anniversary year.

Lindsay Currie, Head of Channel Management, said: “We are thrilled to bring our viewers on a nostalgic journey through five decades of beloved BBC entertainment. Whilst BBC One is dedicated to the Olympics, BBC Four will offer a treasure trove of classic shows fronted by much-loved presenters.

“This collection is testament to the enduring appeal of these iconic programmes, and we know audiences will love revisiting these classics and celebrating the rich heritage of the BBC’s Saturday night entertainment offering”.

In addition, there will also be a number of specials from the archive, focusing on key figures from the selected programming. These include features on Les Dawson, Bruce Forsyth and Terry Wogan. There will also be a chance to see Michael Parkinson’s last BBC edition of his eponymous chat show.

No specific broadcast details and timings have been revealed yet, but the season is said to start on the 27th of July. Will you be watching?
