Bob Holness’s editions of the game show Blockbusters are set to return to Challenge TV for a second run this year. The classic game show began on the channel in March of this year, rerunning early episodes. Following the broadcast of over 100 episodes, the slot changed to showing the later Simon Mayo version.
It is unknown whether this new run of Holness will be a continuation or a rerun of the previous one. The first series or two was aired earlier this year.
Blockbusters, created by Goodson-Todman Productions, was hosted by Bill Cullen and aired in the US from 1980 to 1982. The show made its way to the UK in 1983 with Bob Holness as the host, broadcasting on ITV for ten series until 1993. It experienced a revival on Sky One with Holness resuming his role. Subsequent versions were produced with hosts such as Michael Aspel, Liza Tarbuck, Simon Mayo, and Dara Ó Briain.
Challenge, formerly known as the Family Channel, has been airing classic game shows for almost 30 years. It initially featured classic TVS game shows like The Pyramid Game, All Clued Up, and Catchphrase. Blockbusters was the first game show to be broadcast after the 1997 rebrand. In recent times, the number of 70s, 80s, and 90s shows has decreased, and newer hits such as The Chase, Pointless, and Tenable have taken their place. However, classics like Bullseye, Supermarket Sweep, and Play Your Cards Right still have a spot on the channel.
