With the BBC‘s release of their festive schedules for Christmas 2023, they announce that the Bruce and Ronnie Christmas Special from the late 1980s will air on BBC4.
In 1988, seasoned entertainers Bruce Forsyth and Ronnie Corbett joined forces to make a Christmas special. Seldom–if ever–seen in full since its original broadcast, the special followed in the wake of the end of the popular The Two Ronnies, bringing that “shiny floor” entertainment format that fits the festive period so well.
Bruce and Ronnie Christmas Special has been featured in clip form in the festive-themed documentary hosted by Grace Dent, What We Were Watching?, at the time of the show’s 30th Anniversary. This hinted to a lightly naughty and cheeky vibe, the clip used being a pantomime sketch in which the leads cannot get along. This continues the tradition not only of Corbett’s work with Ronnie Barker but also Forsyth’s long record in light entertainment.
Fiona Fullerton and the Jeff Richer dancers are the billed extra players in this one-off Christmas offering.
