Perusing the upcoming highlights on Talking Pictures TV, one that immediately stands out to make an appointment to view is Caesar and Cleopatra.
Airing on 20th July 2019 at 6.30 pm, starring Claude Rains, Vivien Leigh, Stewart Granger and Flora Robson, Caesar and Cleopatra is a Technicolor extravaganza. At the time of its initial release in 1945, it was the most expensive British movie ever made.
Leigh and Rains, along with esteemed director Gabriel Pascal, bring to life the relationship between emperor Julius Caesar and young Princess Cleopatra dramatised in the George Bernard Shaw play of the same name.
Expect luxurious costumes, dashing Stewart Granger doing what he does best and sets so lavish that Pascal reportedly even ordered sand direct from Egypt in order that it should look authentic in Technicolor; all made – very impressively – during World War Two.
Thank you Talking Pictures TV: another vintage masterpiece to look forward to. Catch Caesar and Cleopatra on Talking Pictures TV at 6.30 pm on Saturday 20th July 2019.
