Chorlton and the Wheelies now on Amazon Prime UK

An iconic Cosgrove Hall animated production from the 70s is now available to stream on Amazon Prime in the UK.

Chorlton and the Wheelies has arrived on Amazon Prime in the UK, with all three series available for viewing. The show joins other former Thames animated programming on the platform, Jamie and the Magic Torch and Button Moon.

What is Chorlton and the Wheelies?

Chorlton and the Wheelies was first broadcast in 1976. It was made by Cosgrove Hall Productions for Thames  Television, running for 40 11-minute episodes over 3 series. The show followed the adventures of Chorlton, an anthropomorphic happiness dragon, in “Wheelie World”, a place where people move around on wheels. The villain is Fenella the Kettle Witch.

The series was written by Brian Trueman, and it features voices by Joe Lynch. Joe Griffiths composed the music.

The Rise of Classic Cosgrove Hall in Media

This release reflects a trend in which Canada’s Boat Rocker Media is increasingly making titles from the Thames Kids and Family archive available across various platforms.

Also in the last year, the complete series of Chorlton and the Wheelies was reissued on DVD by Fabulous Films. It was the first release of the complete series for many years.

What We think…

Jamie’s Reaction: Its great to see this underrated stop motion classic find a home on streaming. I firmly believe the quirkiness of the character design, and the retro charm of the animation will be a hit with a new generation of viewers.

I’m always delighted to see boat rockermedia utilizing that selection of kids and family Thames Television titles. It helps to keep these brands alive by allowing new audiences to discover them.
