Coming to the Connaught: Calan

On Sunday 15th September 2018, the Connaught Studio will welcome award-winning Calan.

10 years since the release of their first album, the high-energy group of five are back with a brand new compilation recording called Deg or 10, including some brand new tracks specially recorded for the CD.

Bringing a fresh and vibrant feel to traditional Welsh music, Calan preserve the old traditions while injecting a feeling of new life. If you are looking forward to all the favourite jigs and reels, you won’t be disappointed by the spirited, foot-tapping vibe, sparkling melodies and energetic Welsh step dancing.

Although the band has garnered some attention due to their deliberately different clothing and presentation, this highlights and contrasts perfectly with the ancient roots of their music. It makes them perfect ambassadors for these wonderful traditions in music, bringing their fresh take to new audiences, attracting curiosity and interest for Welsh traditional music from new eyes and ears around the world.

Calan‘s unique instrumental blend of fiddles, whistles, guitar and bagpipes and a traditional reed instrument from Wales called a pibgorn (made from a wooden pipe and the horns of a bull!) can be heard at the Connaught Studio on Saturday 15th September 2018 at 8 pm.

Tickets are priced at £13.50 and are available online at www.worthingtheatres.co.uk or from the Worthing Theatres box office.
