A classic animated series from the 1980s has been made available via ITVX Premium for the first time. most episodes of Count Duckula, made by Cosgrove Hall, can now be viewed on the service.
Count Duckula, a spin-off from another Cosgrove Hall production, Danger Mouse, was produced by Thames Television. David Jason, the voice behind Danger Mouse, starred as the titular character. The show debuted in 1988 and spanned 65 episodes across four series. Barry Clayton narrated, while voices were provided by Jason, Clayton, Jimmy Hibbert, Ruby Wax, Brian Truman, and Jack May. The iconic opening and closing themes were the work of Mike Harding.
It seems that some episodes are absent from the ITVX lineup. This could be an oversight, or perhaps they were excluded due to content reasons like dated cultural representations. Similar situations have occurred with other series from the same provider.
Earlier this year, the complete series of Count Duckula was released on DVD by Fabulous Films. This follows a trend of titles from the Thames Kids and Family archive, owned by Canada’s Boat Rocker Media, being made available across multiple titles. They include The Big Friendly Giant, Wind in the Willows and Jamie and the Magic Torch.
ITVX Premium, partly made up of former streamer Britbox, has been adding classic children’s shows to its selection for many years. In recent months, titles have included Button Moon and Willo the Wisp. ITVX Premium provides ad-free streaming via a monthly or yearly subscription.
