Big Finish Productions, the company behind many audio adaptations and continuations, including Doctor Who, have announced that they will release 3 live recordings of TV and Radio favourite Dad’s Army… but with a difference.
David Benson and Jack Lane tour the country with their two-man show in which they recreate, on stage, episodes of the BBC comedy Dad’s Army in the style of a radio show recording. Between them, they play all the beloved characters.
This CD release will include three episodes which were part of the television series created by David Croft and Jimmy Perry. Dad’s Army had a radio run in which the television cast, including Arthur Lowe, John le Mesurier, Clive Dunn and John Laurie, recorded the episodes for BBC Radio. The 3 episodes included in the Big Finish release were not ever recorded as part of the original radio run.
The three episodes in this release, recorded in front of a live audience at The Capitol, Horsham, are:
When You’ve Got to Go
When young Private Pike gets his call-up papers, the platoon agrees to give the lad an appropriate send-off. Meanwhile, Mainwaring and Warden Hodges declare war in their contest to win the Town Clerk’s blood donor certificate.
My Brother and I
Mainwaring gives the platoon a firm dressing down on the subject of alcoholic intoxication, only to be confronted with his own past, in the shape of his boozy brother – much to Private Frazer’s delight.
Never Too Old
Corporal Jones is in love – but will the lady in question accept his proposal of marriage?
