Fans of the original Danger Mouse can now catch the adventures of the secret agent and his assistant Penfold on a free streaming service. This week, free ad-supported streamer PLEX added all ten series of the Cosgrove Hall animated show.
What is Danger Mouse
Made by Cosgrove Hall for Thames Television, Danger Mouse was first broadcast on ITV between 1981 and 1992; running for 89 episodes over 10 series. Each episode featured the adventures of Danger Mouse, the world’s greatest secret agent, and his assistant, Penfold. Voices in the series included David Jason and Terry Scott. The memorable theme tune was composed by Mike Harding.
After Danger Mouse‘s success, the spin-off Count Duckula aired for 65 episodes across four series from 1988 to 1993. In 2015, Danger Mouse was rebooted with a new animated series, with Alexander Armstrong voicing the lead role.
The original series of Danger Mouse is also available to stream on the ITVX Premium subscription and has recently been issued in full on DVD by Fabulous Films. Other Cosgrove Hall productions, including Count Duckula, Wind in the Willows, Jamie and the Magic Torch and The BFG have had similar treatment.
Other Cosgrove Hall productions on PLEX
Danger Mouse is among the select Cosgrove Hall productions available for streaming on PLEX. Additional titles include The BFG, Count Duckula, and Wind in the Willows. At the time of publication, not all episodes are present, but this might change in the future. The duration of their availability and the possibility of adding more content remains uncertain.
Jamie’s Reaction
Since Boat Rocker Media acquired the kids and family entertainment division of FremantleMedia, there has been an upturn in the distribution of the Thames Television portion. I remember a time when random episodes of Danger Mouse and Count Duckula were added to compilation releases when what fans desired was the full series. Now it is available to stream and own in various places, and I couldn’t be happier!
