British channel Rewind TV will broadcast the classic ITV sitcom Doctor in the House, based on the books by Richard Gordon. The series will begin airing on the 28th of May, 2025.
What is Doctor in the House?
Doctor in the House is a medical-themed sitcom that follows the trials and tribulations of a group of medical students at the fictional St. Swithin’s Hospital. The central character, Michael Upton, is played by Barry Evans. Alongside him is a mixture of fellow students and faculty, including George Layton, Robin Nedwell, Geoffrey Davies, and Ernest Clark as Professor Loftus.
The series was made by London Weekend Television and first aired on ITV in 1969. It ran for 26 episodes over two series before spinning off into several follow-ups, including Doctor at Large, Doctor in Charge, Doctor at Sea, and Doctor on the Go.
The UK’s Rewind TV and the ever-growing schedule!
Rewind TV is a British channel on Sky (182) and Freeview (92). It features several classic television shows and movies from around the world. The schedule has included ITC series like Department S and The Prisoner. Other broadcast shows, some of which haven’t been aired for some time, include Mapp and Lucia, Don’t Drink the Water, Dick Turpin, and Hancock.
In recent months, the channel has aired a large amount of classic American programming, including The Monkees, Soap, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie and Police Woman
During May, Rewind TV will air a new selection of shows, mostly derived from ITV’s regional past. The schedule will include Please Sir!, Thick as Thieves, and You’re Only Young Twice. An early vehicle for Doctor in the House guest star David Jason, Lucky Feller, will also air in May. We will continue to update when more titles are announced.

Yet another addition from the huge LWT catalogue! It’s a surprising one, as the series previously aired on That’s TV. The scheduling for it became quite confusing in the end, and so I’m glad it has found a definite slot elsewhere.
I remember being fascinated by this series, which has aired on several channels over the years, just for the title alone. An adaptation following the 1952 film, this series took a different approach to the material. This was shaped by the writing team of Graham Garden and Bill Oddie, with contributions from Graham Chapman, John Cleese, and Barry Cryer!
Again, props to Rewind TV for shaking things up and giving a home to displaced sitcoms.
