Talking Pictures TV have announced their intention to broadcast the 1970s drama series Enemy at the Door.
Made by London Weekend Television, it was originally broadcast between 1978 and 1980. It ran for 26 sixty-minute episodes over 2 series.
Enemy at the Door starred Bernard Horsfall, Alfred Burke, Simon Cadell, Antonia Pemberton, John Malcolm, Emily Richard and David Waller. The show centred around a Guernsey community dealing with the German occupation during the Second World War. There is much intrigue, subterfuge, suspense and a palpable air of dread at times in this compelling drama.
Bernard Horsfall as the Doctor is often at the centre of many of the storylines and frequently comes into contact with the reasonable Major Richter (Burke) and his more menacing subordinate SS officer Reinicke (Cadell). Dr Martel acts as a kind of go-between, acting in the interests of the islanders whenever negotiation between the Germans and the locals is required. He has to smooth things over whenever resistance activity is discovered or argue for leniency when the Germans try to take away an element of their freedom.
