Talking Pictures TV have announced they will air Gerry Anderson’s first space themed series Fireball XL5.
Fireball XL5 first appeared on TV screens in 1962, meeting the growing demand for space-related content. The futuristic series centres around space craft Fireball XL5 and its crew as they encounter astronautical threats and alien communities. Paul Maxwell, Sylvia Anderson, David Graham and John Bluthal provide the voices for the main characters.
While it was frequently repeated until the mid 1970s, it has rarely been seen on television since then. This series joins Talking Pictures’ roster of classic television, which includes The Onedin Line, Crown Court, The Four Just Men and 1960s Maigret.
The series was made using the Andersons’ unique Supermarionation process. Other series using this technique include Four Feather Falls, Thunderbirds and Stingray.
Fireball XL5 will air on Talking Pictures TV on Saturday 3rd June 2023 at 2.35pm.
