Interview: Circus 66

Continuing our series of written interviews with unsigned and independent acts, we had the opportunity to submit questions to Circus 66:

1) How did the band form?

It started at university in 2012. For 3 years the band performed as a 3-piece. We started having successes on the live circuit. After the release of our second EP in 2015 and signing to The Animal Farm record label, we grew in experience, supporting acts like The Wild Lies, Sons of Icarus, Massive Wagons and The Dust Coda. Then in 2016, the lineup changed, and we reinvented ourselves musically and as a 4-piece with the addition of groove-based drummer, Major and powerhouse vocalist, Annabelle.

2) How would you describe your music?

We’re an original four-piece playing edgy groove-based rock. Imagine Black Stone Cherry jamming with The Pretty Reckless, whilst getting drunk with Mr. Big. Our main flavours are Southern-tinged rock and roll, bursting with funk-infused blues, catchy hooks and enough groove to sink a battleship!

3) What inspires you to write songs?

Real life events and personal experiences for lyrics, as we like to write about subjects that mean something to us. Music wise, it usually starts with a guitar riff or melody, that I’ve either thought of in my head or been influenced through other musical inspirations, which then gets shaped into a song. Some songs come together quickly, others may need to be kicked into shape. One song that will feature on the new album (scheduled for release for mid 2019) took almost 3 years to get right, the chorus never sat right with us, until now!

4) Have you released any new music recently?

Yes, our EP “Showtime“, was released in March 2018.

5) What are your gigs like?

Regardless if it’s a good night or not, we always give our best performance and always get compliments and good feedback on our live shows. We pride ourselves on being a force to be reckoned with when playing live!
