Interview: Singer Songwriter Nick Higton (The Aultones)

Continuing our series of interviews with unsigned and independent acts, we had the opportunity to submit questions to Nick Higton; also known as The Aultones. Higton is a Singer/Songwriter from Carshalton, and has been causing quite a stir with his material. Taking his inspiration from The Beatles, Paul Weller, Bruce Springsteen and
Oasis, he has recorded two solo albums at Abbey Road Studios “Fear Without Progression” (2015) and “Next Modern Odyssey” (2017).
  1. How would you describe your music?
My influences growing up were Pop and Rock, I’d say somewhere between the two.
  2. You’ve recorded two albums at Abbey Road, what was the experience like?
I would compare it to a football player reaching Wembley Stadium, You are aware of the venue and history, once you get past that and the whistle blows it’s time to draw on your experience and every little step that got you there.
  3. What has the reaction to your recent album been like?
It’s helped cement me as a live performer and receiving over 20,000 views on Facebook for the 6 videos released so far has been a great achievement and I’ve reached a whole new audience.
  4. You’ve done lots of live performances, what are they like?
Every experience is different and it’s all about connecting with the audience, when you find each other it becomes magic. Some nights you might be reaching only one person out there in the crowd.
  5. Are you working on any new material
I’m lucky that in 24 years I’ve never found it hard to keep finding new inspiration. The next record is really shaping up, I look forward when it’s ready to start recording it.
