Jamie and the Magic Torch Added to Amazon Prime

An iconic Cosgrove Hall animated production from the 70s is now available to stream on Amazon Prime in the UK.

Jamie and the Magic Torch has arrived on Amazon Prime in the UK, with all three series available for viewing. The show joins other Cosgrove Hall productions on the platform, Chorlton and the Wheelies and Button Moon.

What is Jamie and the Magic Torch?

Jamie and the Magic Torch follows the Jamie of the title and his dog Wordsworth on adventures. Every night at bedtime they travel down a magical helter-skelter to Cuckoo Land. Characters such as Mr Boo, Jo-Jo, Nutmeg, Officer Gotcha, Strumpers Plunkett, Billi Bundy and Wellibob populate this Land. On these escapades, whenever they get into trouble, Jamie’s Magic Torch saves the day.

Jamie and the Magic Torch, produced by Cosgrove Hall for Thames Television, debuted in 1977. Spanning three series, it concluded in 1979 after 39 episodes. Brian Truman wrote and narrated each ten-minute episodes. The memorable theme tune was the work of Joe Griffiths, with Tony Steven providing the vocals.

The Rise of Classic Cosgrove Hall in Media

This release is part of a trend where titles from the Thames Kids and Family archive, now owned by Canada’s Boat Rocker Media, are being made available across various platforms. Classic Cosgrove Hall content has been spotted on platforms including Pluto TV, Plex and ITVX.

Also in the last year, the complete series of Jamie and the Magic Torch was issued on DVD for the first time in the UK via Fabulous Films.

What We think…

Jamie’s Reaction: No joke, I just bought a couple of series of this show on DVD. Now, it’s available on streaming again!

I’m always delighted to see boat rockermedia utilizing that selection of kids and family Thames Television titles. It helps to keep these brands alive by allowing new audiences to discover them… Without the aid of a torch.
