It has been announced that the complete series of Jamie and the Magic Torch is to be released on DVD for the first time.

Jamie and the Magic Torch was made by Cosgrove Hall for Thames Television, and first aired in 1977. It ran for 39 episodes over 3 series, ending in 1979. Each ten minute episode was written and narrated by Brian Truman. The well-remembered theme tune was composed by Joe Griffiths and performed by Tony Steven.

Jamie and the Magic Torch follows the Jamie of the title and his dog Wordsworth on adventures. Every night at bedtime they travel down a magical helter-skelter to Cuckoo Land. Characters such as Mr Boo, Jo-Jo, Nutmeg, Officer Gotcha, Strumpers Plunkett, Billi Bundy and Wellibob populate this Land. On these strange and wonderful escapades, whenever they get into trouble, Jamie’s Magic Torch saves the day.

This is the first time in which the complete series has been released on DVD; Only the first and second series have received such treatment. Episodes of the show were also released on VHS and DVD via classic children’s TV compilations of Thames owned material.

This release is one of a number of Cosgrove Hall productions which are getting physical releases via Fabulous Films. Other such productions include The Big Friendly Giant (The BFG) and the animated film version of Wind in the Willows.

Jamie and the Magic Torch is available to pre-order from Amazon. It will be released on the 18th of March 2024.
