British channel Rewind TV will broadcast the 1980s television adaptation of Mapp and Lucia, starring Geraldine McEwan and Prunella Scales. The series will begin airing from the 18th of April 2025.
What is Mapp and Lucia?
Set in the 1920s/1930s, Mapp and Lucia follows the social rivalry between two formidable women in the quiet seaside town of Tilling. Geraldine McEwan stars as Emmeline ‘Lucia’ Lucas, a self-styled queen of society, while Prunella Scales plays the scheming Elizabeth Mapp.
The show first aired on Channel 4 in 1985 and ran for 10 episodes over two series, ending in 1986. It was produced by London Weekend Television and adapted from the novels of E.F. Benson by Gerald Savory. The supporting cast includes Nigel Hawthorne and Denis Lill.
What is Rewind TV?
Rewind TV is a British channel on Sky (182) and Freeview (92). It features several classic television shows and movies from around the world. The schedule has included ITC series like Department S and The Prisoner. Other broadcast shows, some of which haven’t been aired for some time, include The Cuckoo Waltz, Worzel Gummidge Down Under, Monkey, and Hancock.
Since its launch, the channel has aired many programmes from the archives of London Weekend Television, including Trouble in Mind, Time After Time, Dick Turpin and The Charmer. On the same day that Mapp and Lucia airs, it will also broadcast the On the Buses spin-off, Don’t Drink the Water.

It’s nice to see a period comedy drama series arrive on the schedule at the ever-expanding Rewind TV. This is one I haven’t seen, but I remember it being spoken about fondly when the 2014 version was broadcast. I’m excited to see this version, given the high calibre of talent involved.
