MASK

Continuing our series of written interviews with unsigned and independent acts, we had the opportunity to submit questions to MASK.

How did you form?

We first met in 2004.  I heard Daz (our bass player) on an acoustic guitar playing the Beatles and made a bee-line to meet him.  We became best friends pretty quickly and he introduced me to Craig.  From there we would spend days together in rehearsal rooms playing Beatles songs and getting pissed, usually falling into town after… Writing original music was always an idea we had and in 2017 we finally took the plunge with our self-produced EP “The Truth”.  We didn’t know if anyone would listen to it or give us the time of day.  Thankfully they did and here we are.

How would you describe your music?

We are heavily inspired by music of the 60’s and 70’s and I think that shows in our music.  I would say retro rock/blues.  From a writing perspective we are quite unique.  We tell it like it is, with a sense of freedom and honesty.

Tell us about your latest release…

After our debut EP release in 2017 we very quickly followed up with a full album called “The Famous” (released end of 2018) working with a producer we raised our game on every level to make something pretty special.
We are incredibly proud of how well it has been received and there’s a real emotional honesty about it.

What are your gigs like?

They’re pretty savage to be honest. We are all parents now so our playing time is precious and that definitely spills over into our live shows.  You get this raw, real, emotional energy and we give it absolutely everything.  If people are spending their hard-earned money to come and see us then this is the way it HAS to be.

What are your plans for the future?

We have had an incredible year and we owe so much to the fanbase we are generating around the world. In 2019 we want to play live where possible and we hope to do a few festivals over the summer.  A UK tour would be amazing and is being talked about. Then we will go back into the studio and, without doubt, do another full album.  I think a huge difference between us and other bands knocking around is that they put everything into making their first album and then have nowhere to go.  We are just getting started we feel.
