Talking Pictures TV have announced their intention to broadcast episodes of the Southern Television series Out of Town, featuring Jack Hargreaves.
This news follows the current airings of another Southern TV favourite, Worzel Gummidge. The channel also broadcasts other Southern series including That Beryl Marston, Together, Rooms and Tell Me Another.
Out of Town covered countryside and rural subjects of the past. Hargreaves’ laid-back style of presenting perfectly fit these tranquil and fascinating programmes. In retrospect, these shows are nostalgic: at the time they were unsentimental; simply informative and respectful of their subjects. The programme originally ran from 1960 to 1981, hosted all the way through by Jack Hargreaves.
The show and its style were so enduring that further programmes in its vein were produced featuring Hargreaves for Channel 4 in the 1980s.
