Continuing our series of written interviews with unsigned and independent acts, we had the opportunity to submit questions to Pot Kettle Black.
How did you form?
So the current format of Pot Kettle Black formed in 2015 when Pete (vocals) and Paul (guitar) (former songwriting partners in a previous band from years ago) had a chance lunchtime encounter and discussed the possibility of meeting up for a jam. That led to them meeting for that jam and realized that the old magic was still there! A few more jams down the line, they decided to recruit a bassist and a drummer to form a band. Paul decided to look on Facebook to find them. In doing this he saw Jodie (drums) in a discussion on a group page about forming a band. Paul got in contact and Jodie then joined in Dec of 2015. After a couple of months and as many failed attempts with bass players we thankfully found Shaun (bass).
How would you describe your music?
Our music is a fusion of old school blues, funky rhythms and modern rock. We all bring in our own styles that blend really well and makes what we feel is a unique vibe that most people can enjoy.
Where did your name come from?
Our band name came from Paul and Pete, they were down our favourite little boozer in Bittern, The Butchers Hook. They were sat there having a beer and whilst there, they were discussing band names and decided to go through the list of beers on the
Tell us about your latest release…
Our latest release is our single ‘Cold Road’, it’s our most proud accomplishment so far. It’s the song we’ve spent the most time writing and recording which we recorded down at Untapped Talent Southampton, it’s also the first music video we’ve produced which was filmed by Tyler Palmer at Old Harry Rocks, Swanage and at Absolute Music, Poole. What are your live gigs like?
The energy of our music is complemented by our passion onstage, whether we’re playing to 10 people or 10,000 we give it our absolute best and aim to keep the audience smiling from start to finish. Every gig we do, not only do we aim to put on a great performance, we aim to have a great time too, and in doing that it pays off every time.
