Included in the most recent additions to streaming service BritBox UK is Bob Block’s BBC classic children’s series Rentaghost. The five-episode final series, featuring all the most memorable characters and elements, is now available to stream on the platform.
The episodes uploaded star Michael Staniforth, Edward Brayshaw, Ann Emery, Sue Nicholls, Molly Weir and Aimi MacDonald. The series, which ran for nine series, follows a group of spirits from the next world operating a business in this world: Rentaghost.
The series began in 1976, but many of the most familiar and fondly remembered elements and characters did not come about until closer to the show’s end in the early 1980s. While we hope that BritBox will add more episodes in time, the ninth series is a great place to start and provides that welcome shot of nostalgia.
Also added to BritBox during this most recent drop were: the Southern Television series of Worzel Gummidge starring Jon Pertwee and Una Stubbs; Mr Benn and King Rollo; Tony Robinson’s Maid Marian and her Merry Men; and Gerry Anderson’s half live-action/half Supermarionation spy series The Secret Service, starring Stanley Unwin. While further episodes of shows already represented on the service added include Stingray, 80s/90s classic Press Gang and the complete first series of Tots TV.
