A Written Interview With Skinny Dog

Continuing our series of written interviews with unsigned and independent acts, we had the opportunity to submit questions to the band, Skinny Dog.

How did you form?

Dave (Drums) and Chris (Lead vocals) came from a former band and started something new with another guitarist. That guitarist left again around the same time Henning (Rhythm guitar) and Paul (Bass) joined. Then Ben (Lead guitar) joined in February 2018 and that was the point we felt like a complete band.

How would you describe your music?

All our 5 members bring different influences to the band from pop-punk to prog metal and we also try to avoid repetitiveness, e.g. every song sounds the same etc., yeah mix it up a bit. The best quote on our music (so far) was at a recent gig in Bristol when the guitarist of Viva La Bear said we started to like the Menzingers and finished like Slayer. We’ll take that as a compliment!

Where did your name come from?

Chris’ doggo!

Tell us about your latest release…

We’ve released our first EP in October 2018 called ‘Puppy Days’ and features 5 songs about breakups, let downs and a few darker aspects of life…..But we are a fun band, honest!
(EP is available on all major digital music platforms)

What are your live gigs like?

At this point in time we’re still the opening band for most gigs, so we try to get everyone hyped and pumped for the main bands, as well as getting ourselves out there, make ourselves heard and hopefully have the odd person walking away thinking we weren’t actually that bad! So, at live shows for us, it’s all about high energy and delivering our currently 30 minute set well enough for people to want more! Best find out for yourself!
