It has been announced that Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s Stingray will be coming to Talking Pictures TV. This follows their recent broadcast of Anderson’s Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5.
Stingray first aired in 1964, airing for one series of 39 episodes. It was the first of Anderson’s series to be made entirely in colour. It also employed a number of new techniques, including the use of interchangeable heads for the Supermarionation puppets in order that their facial expressions could change.
It follows the World Aquanaut Security Patrol in the 2060s, after they discover the existence of advanced peoples like the Titanians inhabiting the sea bed. The Stingray itself is WASP’s flagship, a submarine whose crew explores the ocean, endeavouring to keep peace and harmony in a situation which has been likened to the Cold War, which was at its height when the show was made.
Talking Pictures TV has recently broadcast a number of series which haven’t been seen for many years on television. These include Dixon of Dock Green, The Brothers, Out of Town, Worzel Gummidge and The Gold Robbers.
