Talking Pictures TV to Repeat Dixon of Dock Green in New Timeslot


Talking Pictures TV has scheduled a repeat run of Dixon of Dock Green, following its recent broadcasts on Saturdays and Wednesdays. The BBC procedural drama, featuring Jack Warner and Peter Byrne, has attracted a new audience since its initial airing on the channel in January, including our writer, Jane Grandle.

Ted Willis created Dixon of Dock Green, which spanned 432 episodes across 22 series from 1955 to 1976 on the BBC. Today, only about 33 episodes survive; A 1959 episode was recently found and broadcast on the channel. The character George Dixon originated in the 1950 film The Blue Lamp, directed by Basil Dearden.

Talking Pictures TV is available free-to-air on Freeview and Freesat in the UK. Its channel allocation is 82 for Freeview and 306 for Freesat. It is also available on subscription platforms, channel 328 on Sky Digital and 445 on Virgin. The channel is dedicated to vintage film and television, often highlighting forgotten treasures and classics.

The new run will begin with the earliest surviving episode, Postman’s Knock, from the second series in 1956. It will begin on Monday, October 28th, at 5:20 p.m. and continue every week around the same time.
