Sky channel 190, Rewind TV, unearth another unseen gem from the TWS archives.
British TV channel Rewind TV is to broadcast a long forgotten comedy sketch show from the archives of TWS.
What is The Cut Price Comedy Show?
The cut-price comedy show was the first TWS production for the (then) new Channel 4. It was broadcast for one series of 10 episodes. It featured performers including Lenny Windsor, Roger Ruskin Spear, Stephanie Marrian, Caroline Ellis, Royce Mills and Bob Perry.
TSW (Television South West) was the ITV franchise holder for the southwest of England, operating from 1982 to 1992. It had succeeded Westward Television and was headquartered in Plymouth. During its decade-long tenure, TSW maintained a strong regional focus, contributing significantly to the broadcasting landscape of the area. Network contributions were limited. It lost its franchise to Westcountry Television.
Jamie’s Reaction
Despite the fact that I cannot get access to this channel because I don’t have Sky, it is fast turning into one of my favorites. I had assumed that perhaps it would be a short lived experiment that would inevitably fizzle out. However this doesn’t seem to be the case, and they are fast rising with the amount of rare programming they are managing to obtain.
Just when I thought they had hit the ceiling of what was possible with the announcement of TSW’s that’s my dog, they dip once more into a well which is rarely explored. Hopefully in the not too distant future when they finally make their debut on Freeview, I look forward to exploring the delights our offer. To those people who are lucky enough to be on Sky, enjoy!
