The free, ad-supported streamer FilmRise have added The Mike Wallace Interview to their service.
The one-to-one, head-to-head programme in which interviewer Mike Wallace conversed with some of the biggest and most influential names of the day, first aired in 1957.
Many of the episodes survive thanks to Mike Wallace’s own personal collection of 16mm Kinescope copies, and had previously been digitised for use by the University of Texas.
FilmRise now host 24 episodes of The Mike Wallace Interview, including heavyweights George Jessel, Aldous Huxley, Gloria Swanson, Sammy Davis Jr and Eleanor Roosevelt. In between, the series includes such diverse subjects as playwrights, painters, sportsmen, a Supreme Court Justice: one of every type of visible profession, those within the arts and outside who all carried some weight or influence in their day.
The format is that Mike Wallace sits with his subject, conversing on their works, their reputations, their critics and so on, giving them the chance to reply, rebuff and explain.
The Mike Wallace Interview is available to stream now on FilmRise.
