Archive channel Rewind TV has announced its intention to broadcast the 1970s drama series The Zoo Gang. The addition was promoted via a video on social media, with just a “coming soon” notice.
What is The Zoo Gang?
The Zoo Gang was first broadcast in 1974, running for 6 one hour episodes. Based on the 1971 book of the same title by Paul Gallico, ATV made the series for ITC Entertainment. The main cast featured John Mills, Lilli Palmer, Brian Keith and Barry Morse. The Zoo Gang follows a group of World War II resistance fighters who reunite years later to take on crime in the French Riviera.
The score was composed by Ken Thorne, with a theme tune written by Paul and Linda McCartney.
What is Rewind TV?
Rewind TV is a British channel that launched on the Sky platform in May 2024. It is available on channel 190. It features a number of classic television shows and movies from around the world. The schedule has included ITC series including Department S and The Prisoner. Other broadcast shows, some of which haven’t been aired for some time, include The Cuckoo Waltz, Worzel Gummidge Down Under, Monkey and Hancock.
The channel recently announced several “coming soon” additions to its schedule. These include gems from the TSW catalogue including That’s My Dog and The Cut Price Comedy Show. An announcement has been made about the return of Jason King, a continuation of Peter Wyngarde’s character from Department S, arriving shortly.
Jamie’s Reaction
It is great to see Rewind TV keeping the ITC Entertainment programming coming. The Zoo Gang is a somewhat forgotten series that has seldom been repeated despite the incredible cast. Hopefully, this contemporary screening will encourage a newfound respect for this short-lived series.
