Versus

Continuing our series of written interviews with unsigned and independent acts, we had the opportunity to submit questions to Vs.

How did you form?

Shortie started the band, hounding Bear for years, begging him to come and play Bass guitar in a band with him, Shortie then enlisted Dave on drums from a previous venture. The band played numerous gigs up and down the country but realised something was missing. VS has since grown from their initial three-piece into a five-manned rock machine (enter Sparks and Rob Kewley on guitar) and Shortie took a step back from lead guitar to concentrate on mastering his vocal skills on stage. That’s how it happened !!! You heard it here first!!

How would you describe your music?

Vs are unashamedly channelling the sonic ghosts of yesteryear into modern alternative rock. Vs is a fine blend of post-grunge / early 90s rock music. Our goal is to excite the audience with a blend of visual stimulation and audio participation.

Tell us about your latest release…

Vs recently released their new digital-download EP ‘Alternative Reality’. The EP is available on a ‘Pay As You Feel’ basis from their website or for download on over 200+ download sites including Spotify, iTunes, google play to name but a few. Vs also have a limited number of hard copies for those of you who are still old enough to remember what a cd player looks like.
Vs are in the studios at the moment thrashing put a new EP with a difference, but for now, that’s top secret, so we will have to leave that there for now…

What are your gigs like?

Our gigs are full of energy, even when playing to an empty room, we have a saying in the band: “Go BIG or Go Home”We’d rather win over a handful of fans than bore an entire room to sleep.
Vs fans are quickly gathering in numbers and the band has even been voted as the best newcomer; single of the week in New Zealand!!

What are your plans for the future?

Vs plans for the future are to release a new EP and continue to grow as a band developing our skills and constantly improving on our stage performance. We want to wow the fans and leave them wanting whilst playing a host of shows up and down the country. We’d all like to tour Europe spreading our love for music and want to play with as many bands as we can whilst having a laugh or two along the way.
I think a tour bus is in order for the future.
