This is the first episode of Vintage Animation Millennial for 2025. Originally focused on vintage media, I chose to rebrand the YouTube channel to focus primarily on my interest in animation. With the new year acting as a clean slate, I set out my targets and plans for the year ahead!
Originally, when I launched the channel (then called Vintage Media Millennial), the intention was to cover all sorts of vintage media — film, television, radio — a little bit of everything. But after diving into various topics, it became clear that it was too broad. When I looked back at the episodes that performed best and brought me the most joy, the answer was obvious: animation.
The channel is now firmly focused on that world, and there’s never been a better time for it. We’ve seen a wave of releases in the past year, with excellent HD restorations of classic animated works — including Paddington Bear, The Wombles and Willow the Wisp!
Looking ahead, I’m hoping to publish two videos a week (ambitious, I know!), covering a range of things: reviews of recent home media releases, personal reflections on beloved animators, and the magic of vintage animation in general.
Some of my animation heroes will no doubt be featured regularly — Oliver Postgate, Peter Firmin, and especially Ivor Wood, who has long been one of my biggest inspirations. His work is consistently brilliant, even if it didn’t always get mainstream attention at the time. From Paddington to Bertha, his shows have always had heart, charm, and creativity in spades.
Animation has long been a source of comfort and inspiration for me — something that’s helped me through tough times and always brought me joy. So it feels right to finally let this channel become what it was always meant to be: a love letter to animation.
If you’re a fan of stop-frame, traditional animation, or you’ve followed me from past projects, thank you so much for your support. I hope you’ll stick around as Vintage Animation Millennial continues to grow. And if this is your thing, feel free to subscribe and let me know your favourite animated show, film, or creator.
